Typical Curriculum for a Master's in Nursing

MSN programs in the state of Oklahoma are composed of theory courses and practical experience. The Oklahoma Board of Nursing requires MSN programs to prepare graduates to practice in one of four APRN roles (CRNA, CNM, CNS, CNP) and in at least one of six population foci (Family/Individual across the Lifespan, Adult-Gerontology (acute or primary), Neonatal,(acute or primary), Women's Health/Gender-Related, or Psychiatric/Mental Health).

MSN curriculum includes courses on leadership, policy development, nursing research, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and ethics. The Oklahoma Board of Nursing requires MSN programs to include a minimum of five hundred supervised clinical hours, including pharmacotherapeutic management of patients. MSN programs in Oklahoma must be accredited by an accrediting body that is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

The program must also hold accreditation from one of the following: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, The Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation, The Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists' Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.
