Nursing Licensure in Washington

Applicants desiring to become an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the state of Washington must first become licensed as a Registered Nurse in Washington. This requires graduating from an approved undergraduate program and earning a passing score on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). MSN graduates must attend a graduate program approved by the Washington State Department of Health.

Applicants must have successfully passed the national certification APRN examination. Applicants may also apply for prescribing privileges, upon verifying additional education. Applicants are required to take HIV/AIDS training. APRN licenses must be renewed every two years in the state of Washington, proving 30 hours of continuing education and 250 hours of practice as an APRN.
